QUINTA DO MONTINHO’S NEW WINERY

The project contemplates the alteration and ampliation of an old building for the installation of the winery with the total area of 494 m2. To this area there is a growth of 225 m2 from terraces, verandas and covered exterior areas.

The project’s strategy consisted by one hand, in the recovery of existing building in the most suited areas to the program and the consolidation of existing ruins in the areas destinated for exterior spaces; and in another hand the designing of a new building to accomplish the program’s objectives that required de design of spaces with singular features.

This new volume, partially underground, taking advantage of existing topography, is destined to the installation of vats 11 of 2.500 litres, 11 of 5.000 litres and one of 10.500 litres). This vat room, by its positioning, reduces the volume importance and allows the grapes pressing at a higher elevation and the unloading of the grape pomace in a tank at a lower elevation.

The vat area connects to the pre-existing building by a small body where the bottling and labelling is settled and leads to a storage room. In the contiguous space there will be a restroom, a kitchenette, a reception and a laboratory. In the upper floor there will be a tasting room supported by restrooms and a small kitchen.

This reception spaces are extended outside in areas consolidated from the existing ruins covered by pergolas of vines. The project also contemplates an exterior area of private parking area an area for loading and unloading shipments.
